Too many kids in the Colorado Springs region are enrolled in struggling schools, limiting their access to a quality education that will allow them to achieve their dreams. We believe ZIP Codes should not determine the quality of a kids’ education.
Since our founding, Parents Challenge has empowered 2,000 students from low-income families from across the Pikes Peak Region to access a quality education that will allow them to succeed in school and in life. Parents Challenge currently serves 200 students from 106 families in the Colorado Springs region.
Our program focuses on: Parental Empowerment, Scholarships and Grants, Student Services, and Community Engagement.
Our Parental Empowerment sessions feature top speakers who equip parents to take responsibility for the educational outcomes of their children. Sessions also focus on improving parenting skills, and fostering values in their children, including honesty, integrity, character, and leadership.
Surveys taken after each session, and input on our annual questionnaire (97.5% completion rate) demonstrate that the program is having a powerful impact on our families and students.
An example of impact is the “Boys to Educated Men” program that requires parents and students to set specific and measurable goals to address a key issue. In 2018 eight sets of a parent and their male students were recognized at a gala for completing the program.
Our students are expected to outperform the proficiency rates of their low-income peers, achieve high attendance rates, volunteer in their communities, take part in extra-curricular activities, and graduate from high school.
Because we have a waiting list of over 200 children, our parents understand that they have an obligation to advance and expand educational choice for those who are not fortunate enough to receive a Parent Challenge scholarship or grant.
